Clear Aligner in orthodontic treatment

Clear aligners are orthodontic devices that are a transparent, plastic form of dental braces used to adjust teeth。

Clear-aligner treatment involves an orthodontist or dentist, or with home-based systems, the person taking a mold of the patient’s teeth, which is used to create a digital tooth scan. The computerized model suggests stages between the current and desired teeth positions, and aligners are created for each stage. Each aligner is worn for 22 hours a day for one or two weeks. These slowly move the teeth into the position agreed between the orthodontist or dentist and the patient. The average treatment time is 13.5 months.

Treatment begins with taking x-ray and photographs for diagnostic purposes, followed by capturing the patient’s bite, teeth, and gums via a bite registration and polyvinyl siloxane impressions or an intra-oral digital scanner. The latter method has greatly increased in popularity in recent years as digital scanning technology has improved. The dentist/orthodontist completes a written evaluation that includes diagnosis and treatment plan. Dental impressions are scanned to create a digital 3D representation of the teeth. Technicians move the teeth to the desired location with the program, which creates the stages between the current and desired teeth positions. Anywhere from six to forty-eight aligners may be needed. Each aligner moves teeth .25mm to .33mm.

A computer graphic representation of the projected teeth movements, created in the software program 3shape orthoanalyzer, is provided to the doctor and patient for approval or modification before aligners are manufactured. The aligners are modeled using CAD-CAM (computer-aided-design and computer-aided-manufacturing) software and manufactured using a rapid prototyping technique called stereolithography. The molds for the aligners are built in layers using a photo-sensitive liquid resin that cures into a hard plastic when exposed to a laser. The aligners are made from an elastic thermoplastic material that applies pressure to the teeth to move into the aligner’s position. Patients that need a tooth rotated or pulled down may have a small, tooth-colored composite attachment bonded onto certain teeth. Since the form-fitted plastic used in clear aligners is not as rigid as the metal used in traditional braces, sometimes the flexibility in the materials needs to be compensated in the areas that require movement. Alternatively, attachments may be used to facilitate movement by changing the shape of the tooth. More attachments can make the aligners less aesthetically pleasing. interproximal reduction or IPR is sometimes used at the contacts between teeth to allow for a better fit.

Each aligner is intended to be worn an optimal 22 hours a day for one to two weeks. On average the treatment process takes 13.5 months, although treatment time varies based on the complexity of the planned teeth movements. The aligner is removed for brushing, flossing, and eating. As clear aligners are made from plastic, they can be warped by hot liquids. While undergoing treatment you should limit your intake of hot liquids to protect the shape of your aligners and stop them from becoming stained. Once the treatment period has concluded, the patient is advised to continue wearing a retainer at night for the foreseeable future.

5, when client confirm the treatment plan, we will output the step files, do model printing and aligner manufacture. All these works will be finish within five days.

6, we will packing the aligners when we finish all works, a aligner case, chewies, remover will be given to each patient for free.For packing, we can use your logo and do custom design, but need extra charge.

7, finally we will send back the works by DHL, you will receive 2 days later.

Yes, there is certain technology that will allow you to provide a better product whether it is higher quality or a better fit for the patient, either quality or comfort, or both. That technology is not coming close to being able to replace the hands of an experienced technician.

It’s very, very hard for a machine to be able to replicate that level of customization and the character that a hand bent wire gives to our retainer. No machine can replace that. Also, retainers and appliances in general are highly customizable. You can’t have a machine bending parts 1,000 pieces a minute when the part you need for the next case is going to be totally different from the one you use now.

That’s why automation doesn’t really form an integral part of our production line. In certain ways, it still allows us to keep retainers to have a lot of character and be a source of pride because they’re completely made by hand.

Whether it is the tooth gets completely knocked out or broken in half, a sports guard can help you protect them. Of course it’s not a silver bullet, nothing is, but it’s a next layer of protection for an athlete.


What’s the difference between getting a sports guard off the shelf as opposed to going through your dentist or your orthodontist to get a custom-made one? Well, I’ll tell you. Recently we worked on a football team, we did the entire football team, we customized the guard with the team of the school. On one side we had the player’s last name, on the other side we have the logo of the school. We had helmet straps, the entire if you will, and so when the athletes were to try this on they immediately told us that it was like night and day. That before they had guards off the shelf, but they did not feel nearly as comfortable and they never felt as protected, if you will, as they had with this custom-made appliance. I guess that’s the difference with anything you get off the shelf or custom-made, level of detail that goes into one of these appliances far surpasses anything you could ever find in a shelf. That’s why they are of huge value in terms of performance, but also in terms of protection for patients.

The Sleep Herbst Appliance is extremely successful in the treatment of nocturnal bruxism due to the fact it allows patients to move laterally and vertically without disengaging the appliance. The lateral movement built into a Herbst allows the patient to move the jaw freely. This movement allows synovial fluid to flow freely through the joint, resulting in less jaw discomfort and/or occlusal changes for the patient. This benefit is not found in monoblock appliances.

Key to the function of the Sleep Herbst Appliance is the adjustable telescoping arms on the sides of the appliance. If it is determined that the initial position does not provide the anticipated relief of the condition, the mandible can easily be moved forward by the Telescopic version allowing the clinician to advance in 1/8 mm increments by making one full turn of the protrusion collar up to 4 mm from the start!
